Many of you will be very familiar with this chapter (2). Some of you may still do this each year. If so, do you see a difference in parent support?

This chapter makes me glad that we write a note to our incoming students. Realizing how much such a note might mean to parents and studenta makes me choose to make mine more personal next year.

As a first year teacher I did send all of my parents a letter to introduce myself. I also sent a seperate postcard to each of my students telling them welcome to my classroom. I wa surprised at how many of my students where excited because they received mail in their name. I enjoyed the other suggestions in the article.

As a school we send out postcards which I think is a great idea. When I was in the classroom I always added a note to the postcard. I like the idea of doing two notes. It makes the child feel good to receive mail. My first grade teacher did this and I still remember how I felt and how excited I was about that year. I remember how she said we were going to be playing with playdough and planting plants. It really made a difference with me.

I always make a point to send a letter out to my parents, but I do not send personal notes to my students. Maybe it is because they are a little older that I haven't done this in the past. I believe it would be a very positive thing for me to do in the future and help them to adjust more easily to my classroom. As a parent, it is great to get these letters, but I have to say that I haven't gotten them consistently with my girls and it would be nice to receive them for all three of them each summer.

I like this idea because sometimes your kids that are doing great academically and behaviorally you never call or send a note other than putting a smiley in their planner. As a parent it would make me feel good to get a letter from my child teacher letting me know that he is doing great and children love to get mail. I think it would also help start you off on the right foot with parents you are going to talk often. Instead the first time they talk to you it is because their child is having a problem. The parent usually comes in defensive, but if you have already talked to them and let them know you will do all you can for their child you might have a parent that is ready to listen to what they can do for their child.

I enjoyed the ideas in this article. As a parent myself, I always like hearing from the teacher in positive ways. I have sent mail to parents and students in the past. It was always well received. I think it would be a great idea to send notes before school starts as a way to build community at our school.

Everyone loves receiving a personal note in the mail. Of course, students are made to feel extra special when they receive a personal note from their teacher. This is something I would like to do more of. When working with so many students, I sometimes forget the importance of making things more personal. Not only is this idea wonderful for a summer introduction but it would be a great idea to send several postcards throughout the year with encouraging words.

This is a great idea! I would love to hear from my child's teacher when she is doing a good job. I should take more time and send letters to my students and parents. I think that it would make the studets only want to work harder to be successful. The parents would be happy as well to know that you care for and want the best for their children.

I love the idea of sending a letter to my students. As a new teacher, I sent all my parents a letter introducing myself. As I think back and after reading this article I wished I would have sent a letter to the students at the beginning of school. I think this is a great idea and a wonderful way to get the students excited. I believe this is a great way to help student’s warm-up to their teachers. Comments are closed.
